Outdoor Entertainment Areas for Summer

Most all of us can recall memories of wonderful outdoor events held during the summer: family reunions, just-because BBQ’s with friends, holiday celebrations and relaxing days by the pool.  These are just a few of the reasons functional, safe and beautiful outdoor spaces are crucial for summer memories.  When you think of your perfect outdoor entertainment area, what do you envision?[dt_gap height=”10″ /]
A spacious deck with build-in benches?
A splash-pad for the children to frolic in during those particularly warm days?
A fire pit for S’mores and relaxation?
Or a built-in grill to keep those delicious meals served all summer long?[dt_gap height=”10″ /]
With small children, we have a couple ideas for our own dream backyard: water fun is a must and an outdoor kitchen would be sublime!  But no matter your family size or situation, we have plenty of ideas to thrill and inspire you.  March begins the months of outdoor extravaganzas, so we are going to have a string of upcoming, informative and inspiring posts about all that is “outdoors”!  But for now, let’s start with some ideas for those gathering spaces…

Decks, Screened screened-porch-deckPorches, Three Season and Four Season Rooms

They are all wonderful options – but which one is right for you?  Want to keep the bugs and hot sun away or do you want something open to the warm breeze and sunshine?  Check out our post about the differences between three season and four season rooms which will help you understand which one will best suite your wants, needs and budget.

You can customize those decks and outdoor spaces in marvelous ways, as well.  Soon we will post about some very cool deck options when it comes to materials, rails and extras (like built-in planters and lighting).

Outdoor Entertainment Ideas

Did you know you can create your own, awesome splash pad in the backyard?  And it’s much less maintenance than a pool (bonus!).  That alone could keep little kids – and we can’t deny, the adults would get in on that fun, too – entertained for hours.  And when you just need 10 minutes of quiet from your kids to maintain your sanity, there’s nothing more a parent could ask for.

Who doesn’t want a fire pit in their backyard, too?  Surprisingly, there are a lot of options when it comes to fire pits.  Natural gas, wood-burning, propane or ethanol/gel – later this summer we will be writing about the pros and cons between those options. There’s a lot to consider!
Ever thought about life-size chess?  Or ginormous Jenga blocks?  How about a volleyball court for water-balloon volleyball?  Of course, there is always the classic summer fun of a pool.  Considering cost, location size, maintenance and safety, pools can be a fantastic addition to any outdoor space.  Let those family gathering commence!

Outdoor Kitchen Spaces

For those of us who love to entertain but dread the heat, cramped interior space and mess in the kitchen afterwards, the outdoors can help relieve those frustrations.  Whether it’s a built-in grill or an entire outdoor kitchen (wahoo!), there are many options to consider.  We have a soon-to-be-published post on outdoor kitchen options to get those creative juices (and well-marinated steak juices) flowing.

There’s never a better time to prepare for the future than now, and that also includes preparing a place to create priceless memories.  Whichever kind of outdoor entertainment space you are looking for, the details are important and safety is paramount.  Be sure to let us know how we can help you create a space that will be enjoyed by you, your family and your friends for many, many years to come!
